Buying a SIM card in India

In order to purchase a SIM card in India you will need to provide:

  • The address you're staying at.
  • A passport (or another form of photo ID).

You may also need to provide details of a referee in the country, although this is not always necessary if you provide the address of your hotel.

SIM cards can take anywhere between an hour to a day to be activated, so you may be without coverage for that period.
